About Us

"Nobody's free until everybody's free." ~Fannie Lou Hamer

The Minneapolis NAACP is a social justice organization led by Black people (predominantly Black women). We are committed to fighting for racial equity! We utilize a multitude of tactics (e.g., legal action, protest) to dismantle white supremacy and will not stop until we are free.

Re Edina, had a much smaller, but related experience with Edina law enforcement. Had not been to “downtown” Edina for several years, was going to a movie with my friend. It was dark, raining, visibility low, and I turned left where I had always turned in the old Edina. I was immediately stopped by a female officer, and she was noticeably hostile. Lights were flashing, pedestrians gawking. Sounds typical, I know, but what stays with me is that she said, “What are you doing here?” We said that we were going to a movie, and she issued a citation. Then post citation she followed us to the parking ramp of the theater.

I suppose the reader might think the below is irrelevant, but I was adopted and raised white. So I tended to think that it should matter whether or not I present as alien or threatening. It doesn’t, does it?

Stats: Me: Adult Mexican heritage, 71 at the time.
    Vehicle: Late model Nissan
    Dressed: high-end casual
Her: Very white, 65 at the time
    Dressed: High-end casual

My friend, who was on the open passenger’s side acted as a buffer and peacemaker.
I tend to be sarcastic, and was ready to indulge. I didn’t. But really, “What are you doing here?”,,,

At any rate, after reading the Edina article in today’s Strib I wanted to share. Curious how many non-whites have experienced similar interactions with Edina’s “professional” force?

I am trying reach Jason Sole or anyone that is able to help me with a discrimination issue. The police and the court appointed attorneys are holding our black men in the legal system by adding charges on them since they have no evidence on one charge they are allowed to add charge after charge trying to get one to stick. I know because as a member of the NAACP out of the Michigan area. I have seen this so many times and now to have it be done to my own son. Is just far to much. They are displaying the actions that if we can’t kill them all then we will jail the rest. My question is how long will we allow this clear cases of injustice to happen. Please let me know what I can do at any time to help break these barriers. Please respond to me with any help that you can assist me with on this matter.
Thank you so much for your time
    Sincerely,
    Debra Tucker
